Why Rioja?

Rioja is made from a blend of grape varieties, typically with Tempranillo the dominant grape and Garnacha included in the blend to add some fruitiness. The blend takes its name, like many other wines made in the Old World, from the Rioja region where it is produced.

Rioja is as age-worthy as any great wine varietal, but can often be procured for far less than a similarly rated bottle of Bordeaux or Burgundy. It is a great “deal” wine from the "Old World" but available ubiquitously throughout the American market.
