In the well-received indie film Sideways, the character Miles, played by Paul Giamatti, had several disparaging things to say about one of the noblest of grapes, Merlot.
Lucky us, because it actually started a steady, though unjustified, decline in the demand for wines produced with this grape, and accordingly, their prices, thus providing an opportunity to swill some rich, complex reds at very tolerable prices.
